Age should never be a barrier
We have classes suitable for all ages starting from 5 years, and with some of our students well into their sixties, age should never be a barrier to giving karate a go.

Are you new to martial arts? Perhaps it is something you have been thinking about but never had a chance to start. Or maybe you would like your children to do something active which will also benefit them later in life.
Starting your training
For the first class, all you need to bring is some loose-fitting clothes and a bottle of water.
When you arrive, you will be greeted by one of our friendly instructors who will answer any of your questions and introduce you to some of the other students. There are new students joining throughout the year, so you are likely to be part of a beginners group when you start.
After your first trial class, you will be asked to decide if you would like to join and continue your training. You may get a uniform as soon as you wish; all the equipment you need is available through our club.
As you carry on training and continue to develop your skill, you will have the opportunity to move up through the belt system towards your black belt.
Your first karate class
All you need to bring is some loose-fitting clothes and a drink to hydrate yourself during the break. If there is no promotion currently running, you will also need to bring the correct class fee.
When you arrive, you will be greeted by one of our friendly instructors who will answer any of your questions and introduce you to some of the other students.
Every class is pre-booked, so book your first class and the instructor will be expecting you. Fees are on the fees page.

The questions everyone asks
How old do you have to be to start?
We take children from the age of 5. There is no upper age limit for adults.
What should I bring?
Sports clothes, a bottle of water, and a positive attitude. Keep an open mind, be prepared for a bit of a workout, and you are all set for an enjoyable experience. New students can do their first few classes in normal sports clothes.
Will there be other beginners there?
We have new students joining throughout the year, so it is very likely that there will be a beginners group when you start.
How much are the classes?
Classes are pay as you go, with no contract. In East London the class fee is £10 per person, with extra discounts for families. In West London classes are £11 or £12 depending on the venue, with a sibling rate. For South East London, Kent and South West London, ask the instructor when you book.
Is there a free trial?
West London: your first beginner's class is free. East London: one free trial class in Chingford, Edmonton and Homerton only; select 'pay later' when you book. South West London: free beginners classes at Addlestone and Bedfont.
What is the training like?
The training varies from lesson to lesson, so the classes are always interesting. Each week the instructor sets a focus in order to improve specific areas. This can include warm up and stretching, basic techniques, kata and combinations, sparring, self-defence, fitness, and fun and games. The best way to find out is to come along and experience it for yourself.
Are there any spaces available?
We always welcome new students to come and join us. Some locations are more popular, however, and may require people to go on a waiting list.
Do classes run in the school holidays?
In West London all karate classes run during half terms and school holidays. Edmonton is open throughout the year except bank holiday Mondays.
Can I cancel a pre-booked class without losing money?
In East London, yes: cancel at least 2 hours before your scheduled session and the credit is saved on your account. Since spaces are limited, this time is reserved to allow people on the waiting list to take your place. Cancelling less than 2 hours before the class forfeits the class fee.
What payment methods are accepted?
We accept all major credit and debit cards including Visa and Mastercard. Cash is also accepted.
How do I register my child?
You have two options. You can register your child's name with your email, or you can register yourself first and then add your child as an extra family member. The advantage of registering yourself is that emails will be addressed to you rather than your child.
Can parents watch or join in?
Yes. Parents are welcome to come and train with their kids in the beginners classes, and at Walthamstow parents are welcome to come in and watch.
