In memory of Sensei Kevin

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sensei Kevin John on 06/05/2026.

Sensei Kevin was one of the senior instructors within Kenshukai Karate and played an instrumental role in shaping the club into what it is today. His dedication, kindness, and passion for karate left a lasting impact on hundreds of students, instructors, and families over the years.

Kevin had been part of Kenshukai Karate right from the very beginning, starting his training in 2000 at the age of 16. Recognised for his natural ability and genuine passion for martial arts, he soon became deeply involved in helping the club grow, not only through his training and teaching but also through promoting the many benefits of karate to others.

Sensei Kevin was admired not only for his knowledge and dedication, but also for his warm, friendly and approachable personality. He had a natural ability to encourage people, make students feel welcome, and bring positivity into every class he taught. Many students who trained under him found confidence, discipline, friendships, and a lifelong love of karate through his guidance.

His contribution to Kenshukai Karate cannot be overstated. He helped shape the spirit of the club and became not only a deeply respected instructor, but also a close and valued friend to all of the senior instructors who had the privilege of knowing him.

Above all, Kevin will be remembered as a genuinely kind and likeable person whose passion for teaching and helping others touched the lives of so many people.

He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will continue through the students he inspired and the club he helped build.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family, friends, students, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Beyond the dojo

Beyond karate, Kevin also dedicated more than 20 years of his life to public service through his work in policing. Many people within the karate community may not have fully known the extent of his commitment, professionalism, and service to others outside of the dojo.

Beginning as a Special Constable before becoming a full-time police officer in 2010, Kevin served the Lambeth community with pride, integrity, and unwavering dedication. He was deeply respected by colleagues and known for always going the extra mile to help both his team and the public. Much like in karate, he brought kindness, reliability, and quiet strength to everything he did.

Kevin's life was one of service: to his students, his community, his colleagues, and his family. His impact reached far beyond the walls of the dojo.
